Diana Marshall is the owner and artist behind Vixen Hollow Arts. She is Boston born and raised outside the city in the small town of Watertown and in South Yarmouth on Cape Cod. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Applied Mathematical Sciences at Sweet Briar College in Central Virginia in 2004. Sweet Briar’s mascot is the vixen — a red fox.
Evoking the sunsets and ocean scapes of her time spent in Cape Cod and at her home in Maine, Marshall strives for each piece of art to bring happiness into the lives of her clients and sunshine into their homes.
After college Diana had a career in her mid to late 20s as a Civilian Government Contractor working on contracts with the United States Patent and Trademark Office specializing in Cryptography, Biometric Security, Modeling, and other mathematics-based technology classifying Patent Applications in Technology Center 2100.
She then became a Civilian Government Contractor with Fortune 500 company Northrop Grumman on US Navy Contracts with Sperry Marine located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her focus was on business efficiency applying Six Sigma Green Belt and Six Sigma Black Belt business models to the design manufacturing and business processes within a facility that designed and built electronics for the US Navy vessels. At Northrop Grumman she was the Networking Chair of the Northrop Grumman WINS, Women’s Initiative for Networking and Success. During her tenure, she championed a 2009 and 2010 Brownie Science Try it Day with the Local Girl Scouts of America Virginia Skyline Council and Kappa Delta Chapter at University of Virginia to earn 5-7 Brownie science badges available to over 100 local Brownie Scouts in these one-day events at Camp Sugar Hollow in Crozet, Virginia. Diana was also a member of Toastmaster International during her tenure at Northrop Grumman.
In 2011, Diana moved back to Cape Cod and began feel the pull of the sea. Diana was an assistant at De Castellane Gallery in Dennisport Massachusetts assisting artist and owner Hans De Castellane for multiple summers. While on Cape Cod Diana began taking art classes with Cape Cod Mosaic Artist Mary Dunn Cauley in Chatham, and Cape Cod stained glass artist Neil Maciejewski Johnson at Cotuit Center for the Arts and Neil’s Home Studio. Soon she discovered a hidden talent, passion, and love for creating pieces of art. After mastering mosaics and stained glass, Diana became a self-taught resin wave artist. Diana’s stained glass has been featured in two art shows at Cotuit Center for the Arts in Cotuit on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and at Waterville Creates in Waterville, Maine.
The Covid-19 pandemic gave Diana the opportunity to throw herself into her art and create so many wonderful pieces. After 10 years on Cape Cod, and a year into the pandemic, she moved to Maine for a simpler quieter life and a chance to go out on her own and start her own arts company. The name Vixen Hollow came from combining the term “Foxhole” with Sweet Briar College’s mascot—the vixen and a unique twist.
When Diana isn’t creating art, you can find her in her favorite local yoga studio practicing Bikram Yoga.
